Here's a more recent close up of the guy standing with his hands in his pockets.

I suspect that it maybe the face panel of a large sculpture made in France and shipped to an island near New York.

What a liberty!

It does look like Elvis, but I think they got the feet wrong.

You know, I lived in NYC most of my life. I have taken several trips past and to the Statue of Liberty, and never really took a hard close look at her face. If that’s truly lady liberties face, which I think it just might be, well she does not look very happy.

It is the face of the Statue of Liberty, as noted. I had never seen that photo of the face by itself before, and was struck by its strong resemblance to Elvis.

That probably wasn’t the original intent, though, I suspect.....

When I looked at the picture in the OP's post (without looking further), my first inclination was also Elvis. With the removal of telephone booths, he has not appeared in some time.

There's a strong hint of Marlon Brando in there as well though...

Kinda' like The Donald too? That was my first thought before I saw the Elvis comparison.

I got to Lady Liberty almost immediately. The steel girders, apparent age of the photo, and the style of dress for the man in the image gave a clue to the time period, which helped. Had those been cropped away, it would have been much more challenging.

I am not surprised at the similarities to other famous faces. There are only so many arrangements of the human face. Features and proportions that are considered to be pleasing or beautiful tend to be more alike than different.

Great pic! The "she looks like Elvis" thing has been making the rounds for awhile, and once it's mentioned, most can see it. The sculptor's actual model was his mother--no, not Elvis', the sculptor's mother

The serious, even sad look, that's kind of a neo-classical thing. My favorite little-known bit about the statue is that those large, sandal-shod feet are trodding on loose chains and a broken shackle, a detail that is invisible from any angle that statue is viewed today. One of the motivations for it's making was the ending of chattel slavery in the U.S.

Elvis was my initial thought although the pic looks like it predates him, or at least his famous years.
