I've been here for about 4 years. I found AGF When I was googling for info on building a battery backed inverter for playing at a wedding in a remote mountain location.

I haven't spent any money as a direct result of the AGF. I have got good pointers from folks here on strings, artists and retirement. I've tried to share what I've learned with others.

As is the case with every forum I've participated in, after about a year I saw everything there is to see here. The same questions get asked and answered ad nauseam. I don't blame the newbies for asking questions, but how hard is it to search for topics on strings, picks, humidity, nut width, wood combinations, impedance mismatch when connecting piezo pickups to a PA, etc. So I read and comment on fewer and fewer threads here. But I still enjoy the AGF.

I’ve been here seven years, during which time I have bought exactly one guitar. A telecaster. Clearly, I can’t blame that on y’all.

Whoops. I realized that I was a lurker prior to joining. I’m thinking my first post was a NGD for the J 50 that is tied for number 1 with my 65 000 18.

But I’ve had GAS for a long time. And twenty years ago I was a member of the Usenet group rmmga—as were a few of the AGF crew.

I picked up the guitar in 2013 after a 20 year time off, this time around determined to learn to really play, not strumming but fingerpicking. My progress has been slow but an enjoyable everyday hobby. I managed to join in Dec 2017 after only reading posts here since 2013, together with other guitar forums. I learned more from WHM more than everyone else put together due to clear writing and generous sharing of information from this enthusiast, who also steered me to a OM-21. I read much more than I post, at least 10 to 1, or probably more than 20 to 1 (haven’t kept track accurately). AGF has been a fun, 99% civil place, thanks to the moderators and owner.

January 2003, so I'm coming up on 17 years. The longest I've been on any internet forum.

I joined the first month the Taylor Guitar Forum was in operation, September of 2000, with user number 35. However, there was a a database crash three months later and my login info was corrupted so I had to rejoin on December the 10th. I was a forum administrator the day the Acoustic Guitar Forum was born in 2003.

I have no idea what this forum has cost me, but it has given back far more.

Bob

Ha ! I had to look at one of my posts to see the join date
So a little over 11 years

The only cost instrument wise per se , has been that after some 47 years I got back into electric guitar and have about $2,500 in a guitar , couple amps and some pedals. But then it is hard to accurately assess actual cause and effect

Bob, I remember you from the Taylor forum days, and always thought you were honest, sincere and a never failing sense of humor!

Time: a little over three years.
Cost: ??? Forums are free, baby.

I've learned a lot and made some friends, acquaintances, and contacts along the way. If anything, this site saved me money (or at least helped me spend it more wisely), as I've found some great deals and learned more about my likes/dislikes.
