Anybody know if a Baggs Mixpro would be suitable for this application? Two channels, some EQ, phantom power, etc. I like the small size of the Mixpro.

Bob- never had any problem using the RedEye Twin - there is some kind of voodoo in the RedEye preamps- they may lack the advanced features of the Headway EDB2 or other dual preamps, but they just smooth out your tone. I find the simple gain and treble adjustments work extremely well. I also play a Collings mandolin with a K&K installed and I cut the treble down, adjust the gain and it sounds beautiful.
When I do solo work instead of with my trio, I just throw the RedEye between the guitar and S1 and it just has a tendency to make the guitar sound better. Wish I could explain it better, but there it is. I do say though, that the Headway EDB2 gives you max flexibility at a very reasonable price. As I said earlier, I can use it as a mini-mixer with a guitar in channel 1 and mic or headset mic in channel 2. I find that the eq on both channels works fine or you can send it to one or the other. What I like is that putting the mic into the EDB2 allows you to boost the mic signal into the S1 and that helps with dynamic mics especially. Let us know how you do and what you decide. Good luck and happy hunting. Davidc |

Thanks for all the good info. I'm thinking the EDB2 is more than I need right now but seems like a future purchase. I love the plug n play, easy to adjust, red-eye. I'm leaning toward this right now but then i read about the ToneDexter. Do you, or anyone else have any experience with the Tonedexter? Thanks, Bob But

The Tone Dexter is way more than a simple preamp. First of all it is not a dual channel preamp. You can read the threads here on the forum about the TD. There are many. You can go to audiosprockets.com and learn all about the TD.
The TD creates impulse responses (IR)s, from your guitar and allows you to mix it back in with your pickups. Yes, I have experience with the TD and own and use one. It is not a preamp for mixing dual sources. It is however a magical piece of gear that many players here have really been impressed by. Hope this helps. |

This is technically correct. However, it does process two channels (pickup source and IR emulation) and blends them to mono.

But to be clear, it won't blend his dual-source pickups.

Yes. The Tonedexter only accepts one external source.

[QUOTEI'm not sure, but you'd probably get better responses starting your own thread instead of hijacking this one.]
Huh? The Mixpro is a 2 channel preamp and is certainly germane to this thread. So, how is my previous post hijacking? Paul

Paul
Hi Paul, Originally when I read your post, it sounded like you were asking for yourself, which I perceived as hijacking. After reading it again, I can see it could have been misinterpreted and you were asking if the MixPro would meet my needs. I do apologize, and thanks for adding to the discussion. Bob

Paul and Bob,
Actually the Mixpro would work. There are internal controls for output and some eq. It does an ok job of blending with a mono out. Just another option. Davidc |
