Elderly has a Custom Shop-built OM-28 in stock. I played it this morning, and it is a very, very nice sounding guitar!

That Elderly OM is not even remotely like the OM-28JM, it's basically the discontinued OM-28. I'm guessing a duplicate of the Mayer OM, the original one, will run two to three times that and anyone who has played one will understand why.

Ok I will throw my 2 cents in even though I may get some flak for my comments. I had a Martin OMJM....not the original limited edition OMJM. It was an OK guitar. To me it was a little closed in and dark. I now have a Collings OM and it's in a differnt league, very open, nice sparkle and loud like a dread. So if were looking for an OM, I would be looking at a Collings. By the way, I still have my Martin D-18V custom (adi top) which sounds great. To me, Martins are very instrument specific. The sound seems to very within a particular model.

I believe the standard width on the Collings is 11/16ths and you have to special order a wider neck width at the nut. I special ordered the 1.75 nut on my OM and find that the standard 11/16 nut on my Martin now seems cramped, and I have small hands...go figure. The neck profile may also play into the equation.

jordansOnly, the neck on my Collings is the standard modified V and of course on the Martin it's the vintage V neck. The Collings V is not as pronounced as the Martin.

Aside from some minor appointments and the pickup, the OM-28 John Mayer is an OM-28 with an Engelmann top and thinner nut.

I really like and have Engelmann, but the 28 Mayer does not have any major changes like different bracing patterns, it's an OM-28 with an Engelmann top and 1-11/16" nut. Which is not a bad thing at all, but it is not a radical departure from an OM-28.
