You can get a new D-18 for $1890 from several different forum AD's if that's the route you want to take.

When you can buy new for basically the same price you know the used market is in for a massive correction...Especially with the current economic backdrop.
When speaking Martin the 18 style models are less expensive so the difference in new and used is a lot less. As you go up in price (28/35/41/41/45) those numbers increase as do the associated used prices which widens the gap considerably.
However, I do believe there are and will continue to be some good deals to be had buying used. I suppose it will be based on how motivated the seller is to move a particular guitar. I just let go of a consigned guitar that I was ready to move and took less than I thought I would have initially. Conversely, I have a couple of Custom Shop Martin's consigned that I'm willing to wait on because they are better (IMHO) guitars than their standard offerings. Just have to find the right person for that particular guitar. Sometimes that takes a while?

Fair enough. With my mindset, and with my low knowledge of the used market, I personally would never by used if a new one was available for a couple hundred dollars more. I just don’t get it. That used one at 1600 or 1700 better be sounding amazing.

I totally agree. But that exact scenario can happen...we all hear things differently. Depends on the guitar but I'd probably buy the new D-18 at $1890 (with a warranty for whatever that's worth?) than a used one at $1600 unless the used was was just a stellar guitar?

I think I’ve posted this before but if I were to sell my D18 with a K and K in it, it would go for $1500 shipped. It’s a 2018 in excellent condition. I’ll bet it would be gone in a day.

FWIW I recently sold a beautiful like-new D18 with ambertone top for $1600 but it was a cash Craiglist sale that I didn't have to ship...

We rarely have anything nice on Craigslist, but I just checked, and sure enough, I found one. They say it is brand new. The asking price is unsurprisingly $2k.

So was mine - everything is negotiable on Craigslist. FWIW I tend to lower the price more often when a prospective buyer admires the guitar but may be a little short on funds as opposed to someone who starts quoting going prices elsewhere or tells me all about COVID19 and poor economic conditions. I'm not putout by someone who makes a reasonable counter-offer but someone who throws out a ridiculous lowball offer or starts off by saying that he really doesn't want or need the item I've got listed should look elsewhere. There's a local guy who is notorious for making lowball offers on musical stuff and has a whole song and dance that goes along with it. Recently I placed a Taylor guitar stool on Craigslist, and I just wanted to get it out of my house. This same guy replied with the usual lowball offer and song and dance and must have been surprised when I told him, "It's yours."

I have a bad back and never sit on the Taylor stool so I ordered a drummer's throne with a back rest. And yes, the Emerald and Rainsongs were getting increasingly proprietary...

Wow that was a great deal!

I remember seeing your NGD for that one, that was a beautiful guitar. Of course not having to pay for or deal with the stress and risk of shipping definitely helps. I doubt I’ll find anything that good locally.

The buyer drove several hundred miles to pick it up. Not having to ship, pay Reverb fees, worry about buyer dissatisfaction (it was a beauty but you never know) and having cash in hand (no PayPal fees) was definitely worth a few hundred to me...
