I'm a Cardinal fan, so I remember him well from the '68 World Series. I think he hit about .380 in those seven games. He was a great one.

Al Kaline was probably the best Detroit Tiger ever . They picked him up out of Baltimore when he was 18. He played right field and every once in a while somebody would test his fielding and his arm(Threw out 3 Cleveland Indians tagging up, in ONE GAME)-------he ALWAYS passed! His hitting was great too and thank God, he was on the team for the 1968 and 1984(Front office) Tigers World Series victories! There was never a question about him getting into the HOF on first ballot when he was eligible. He was loved in Detroit and will be missed by all that love straight up great baseball, too.

+1 from this second-generation Yankee fan - although I wouldn't sell Ty Cobb short either...

I spent many a sunny day at 'Ol Tiger stadium (Briggs when I was a kid in the 50's) Looking down on him from the bleachers . He ignited Detroit with a big swing in the '68 series that reminded me of the big swing with the little hit that Willie Mays did for the Mets. Truly the modern era's most iconic Tiger.

I'm not a big baseball fan, but Al was a great player and well-loved in my area. Rest in peace.

As a Yankee fan , I respected the crap out of this guy . Surely , I would have rather he be on my team than have to play against him .
As a side note , I was able to attend the last game played at Tiger Stadium . Darned glad that I managed to get there before it was torn down . I have infield dirt from that ballpark .

So sorry to hear of his passing. Grew up a Dodger and Angel fan.
But, as a baseball fan, I remember following the Tigers in 1968.
Kaline, Cash, Northrup, Stanley, Horton, etc.

Al Kaline was my very first sports idol. I started following the Tigers in 1962 at the age of 8.

RIP Mr. Tiger

Hate to say the first couple of times I saw Kaline play was at Griffith Stadium back when Washington was ‘1st in war, first in peace, and last in the American League. A fantastic player and always seemed to be a great quiet leader and role model as well. Many fine memories.

A real baseball hero. 18 out of 22 seasons an All Star, among his many accomplishments.

Yeah lots of childhood memories watching "Kaline in the corner".

Very classy guy in all respects - and stayed around the game he loved for many years.

A life well lived.
