Do Folks that Loop use mic based pickups - bleedover
This is what I experienced when I used my Schertler Ag-6 + S-Mic, but
I assume it would apply to any mic-based guitar pickup. When singing while laying down a loop, my vocals bleed over into the loop mix. I assume the mic in the soundhole is picking it up. I do NOT have the vocal looping engaged. The looper is the Boss RC-30 if that matters. Is this the way all mic-based pickups work? Is there a way around it.... other than use a different pickup (which I do)? I am re-evaluating pickup options and want to know if I just need to rule out mic-based pickups. Thanks. |

If you have a mic involved, either for instrument or vocals then you'd need to use headphones to loop without introducing the monitored loop into the mic. It's easy to do if you're just playing by yourself, but not an option if you're using a looper for performance.
In your example the only way you can get a "clean" guitar loop without the vocal would be to use a pickup without blending in the microphone portion of the guitar system. |

Thanks, that's what I figured.

Hi MEB
Have you considered a feedback buster (rubber soundhole plug)? I looped with a Boss RC-20 for years with my K&K dual source rig, and had no vocal bleed into the PA/amp. I'm guessing my soundhole feedback suppressor blocked it quite well. And when I go dual source my mic is louder than my pickup in the mix. |

Thanks ljguitar. I now use soundhole pickups (Sunrise/Blackstack);
which preclude the use of a FB buster. I 'have' had thoughts of trying other pu choices, but for now, I am pretty happy with them. I am mainly interested in dual source SH pickups. |

I've cut those black soundhole plugs to fit around pickups, volume controls etc. They don't have to be hermetically sealed to work. |

No bleed. I loop the guitar first, third or.... I lay down the rhythm then add percussion or additional guitar, then sing with that and add lead riffs or additional while not singing. I use a second mic for vocal loop if needed.

[QUOTE=ManyMartinMan;6343249]No bleed. I loop the guitar first, third or....
The ones I am speaking of are the songs for example: say I want to accompany the chorus with some lead picking. The song is intro, 1 or 2 verses, then a chorus. I am well into the song before I get a chance to do a live 'loop' of the chorus. Of course, I could play the chorus as an intro, but some intros are an integral part of the song. I NEVER need a second loop, overdub, or vocals in the loop. in fact, I wish I could disable the overdub function. All I need is a basic loop. An alternative is to pre-record the loop and call it back, which I have done a lot. Right now, I am not using a mic pickup, but wouldn't mind trying one, again. For example, I would like to try a Rare Earth Blend, or revisit the Schertler, but there is no need if I cannot resolve this issue. I am new to looping...am I missing something? Thanks. |
