Yamaha Red Label FGX3
My first goal of the day was to buy some toilet paper for the family, but the shelves were empty so I went over to GC to quickly browse for a guitar that could be my go-to beach and camp guitar for summer 2020. The goal was to get something that played and sounded great for under 1k that I wouldn’t mind getting bumped, dinged, stinky from campfires, etc. I walked in with the intention of getting a Taylor 114e because to me that is great value at that price point. Well I saw the FGX3 and asked the dude to pull it down and wow! A lot of guitar for the $$, 1.75” nut, solid spruce top, solid hog back and sides and even comes with a hard shell gig bag to toss in the back of the car. Anyone else have one of these?

I have the 5. Great guitars (for the money or not). Congrats! And while on vacation, plug it into the sound board at the local open mic and have the best plugged in sound of the night!

They are a myth where I’m at. The GCs in my area have not even heard of them until I show them on their on computer—unless they started shipping in last week. I beginning to think they really don’t exist

I'm on my third guitar in a journey that started with a Taylor 714ce. It just didn't do it for me so I sold it and lost hundreds and bought a Taylor 317e Grand Pacific. It just didn't do it for me so I sold it and lost hundreds and bought a Yamaha FGX5. Sure wish I had bought one in the first place. I'd have about $1500 more in my pocket and a great guitar in my hand. I could buy a lot of toilet paper for $1500. I love mine and I've never really been a hog fan. Bronze D'Addarios are what I've been putting on mine. I agree it's about as good a value you can find.

Congratulations man, that’s a sweet Yamaha. HNGD to ya!
I wanted one of those back in November, but they were all out of the FG3 and FG5s. at the time. Which got me looking at another wonderful Yamaha series, the LL and LS. I eventually ended up with the LL16.

Congrats, enjoy it for years. If it lasts like my FG-140 which I purchased in '72 and still have, it'll be around for a long time.

Well done!
Needless to say, I'm perfectly happy with my FS5 .

I’m so anxious to try one, I really want a mahogany dread, and I know first hand the quality and sound of Yamahas “higher” end stuff. But living in Saskatchewan, might be years before I come across one, unless I order one but I can’t order one just to try!
I would probably get one without electronics, although it would be handy to have. |

Don't have one but wish I did. I've played both an FS5 and an FSX3 (the smaller-bodied versions). Both sounded great!!

I've had the FGX5 for a few months, it's terrific. I love the finish and the sound, whether amplified or not.
I don't like seeing a circuit board through the sound hole, but no big deal. Yamaha is building exquisite guitars, just got a new LS 26 from Japan. Great choice JKilgour!!! |

Wow I didn’t know one of these even existed in the wild. They are perpetually on back order all the time.
