Default David Rawlings ?

Is there anybody on this corner of the forum who will admit that they got into archtops because of David R and his Epiphone Olympic(s) ?

(Apart from me that is).

It's the bit with the capo, late in the song, that gets me.

David and Gillian are incredibly talented. David's flatpicking is in a realm of its own. I ran across an Eastman 805 a few years ago and came so close to buying it with delusions that I could maybe sound like David. Then I came to my senses, realizing that ain't gonna happen in this lifetime.

Silly Mustache: Thanks for the lovely archtop comparison video on Youtube.

Zissou, thanks for that. Shoulda bought that AR805 = I love mine but it doesn't have that nasal sound that the old Epi Olympics do.
The Harmony might be closer, which was my first departure to archtops back in 2006.

If anybody would like to view that 3 archtop comparison I made - here it is:

I like that description. My resonator sounds more like that Olympic than my archtop does.

Huge fan of his guitar and his playing. But, funnily enough, it was Sarah Jarosz playing a fletcher brock octave mandolin that got me pursuing an archtop. I just love the sound of it but I'm no mandolin player - not sure if this is the actual clip but it'll do!

We just had the privilege of seeing Gillian And Dave in a small venue in OKC. I am a big fan of their music. Their vocals and their playing are so complimentary to each other.... it’s uncanny, really. I bought one of the new Epiphone Olympic modelS when they came but sold it when we sold our home and I needed to thin my herd. I regretted it that day and still do. I know a lot of archtop affficianados are not fans of the new Epi’s but for what they are, they do a very nice job, and I don’t think the intent if them was/is meant to be a faithful copy of their originals, but even still, the Olympic is quite nice. And plugged in, that thing sounded big! Oh, and that was one of the better concerts we have ever seen. David and Gillian are incredibly gracious and kind, engaging, and supremely talented in their musical genre.
