So many nice pictures, so many nice guitars ! I love it !

In this most recent set of family portraits, you'll see a Baranik Retreux Parlor in Koa/Carpathian that I've had since 2013. Very musical, awesome playability, amazing headroom. My second Baranik is the 00m in Higuerilla/Carpathian, which I often think of as a larger version of the Parlor, very sweet, very comfy. The third Baranik, Mike's flagship Meridian in Black Cocobolo/Colorado Blue Spruce, has the grace and power to match its classy looks. I recently welcomed the newcomer to the family, a Claxton OM in Claro Walnut and Italian Spruce. For the lowdown on this one, read my recent review in the Custom Shop. It's a superlative instrument in every way.

While I can play pretty much anything I want on all four, I'd say the 00m has more trouble holding things together with a flatpick. The Parlor, due to its diminutive size, is a bass-light affair, but it's very expressive otherwise and can take a real pummeling without breaking up. The Meridian can do it all, as can the Claxton, but the flavors are very different. The Meridian is smooth and clear, throaty and focused, very powerful when provoked and strums like a dream. The quieter Claxton is open and airy and the most balanced, naturally responsive guitar I've ever had.

What a fabulous assortment of guitars!

Here's mine … this is where they live except the Guild F512 lives in the case on the floor.

I love it, a big bold personality. It just feels like a normal dread, not light like a Santa Cruz. I get along just fine with the tapered neck that a lot of folks haven't liked.

I've never had a chance to play a Collings, because I don't know anyone that owns one!

I've heard nothing but good about them.

Default my gaggle of honking geese...

Here's what's in my home now. Some have to go.
From left to right Ibanez PN-1 - all laminates, decent sound, fun to play. A good ragtime/blues player could yank some great tunes and sound good doing it with this. Needs to go to the shop. While the string height is ok, it plays certain chords slightly out of tune, even though the tuner says the strings are all tuned.
Next, the 1959 Gibson LG-0. I like playing it pretty well, but the sound, compared to the others, is pretty dead. Strings close together at bridge makes this an easy guitar for strumming songs. OTOH, one would like a strumming guitar to have a nice rich sound, which it just does not. Might try metal bridge pins - see if it can brighten up.
Next, the love of my life, my Martin D Jr. There's just nothing to say. I love it, it loves me - we're in love.
Next is the Yam, FS830, which some of you may know is almost universally praised around here on this forum and all over. It truly has nice big sound, good sustain, sweet sounding - all that, stays in tune, etc....but it's narrower at the nut and kind of a long scale, and me no likey. I just can't bond with this guitar.
It's actually the best looking guitar I have, and I feel it would be perfect for someone, so I need to sell it soon. A shame to hoard a guitar I have no fondness for.
Then lastly, the little 3/4 body size Epiphone nylon string. I bought it when I first started back up playing as I thought it would be easier on my no longer calloused fingers. But it's no fun and doesn't sound good either.
I might get the string height lowered (because right now you could fit a Hummer under there) and keep it in the car and just play for 10 mins or whatever at work on my lunch break. Wouldn't hurt my feelings if something happened to it.
But yeah, the D Jr is my true love.
I finally stopped looking at my Reverb feed, I no longer look at whatever ad emails the various online sellers send.
The various postings on this forum helped me decide to get the D Jr. so for that I am thankful. Thanks!

To celebrate the first day of spring, I took my Martins outside today for some fresh air.

Nice Beatcomber.

It's three weeks into autumn here. This was taken a month or so ago, close to the end of a very cool, wet summer. I'm afraid they aren't lined up very straight but it is uneven ground and I didn't want to see anything fall off its stand!
