Many parlors can have 14 frets clear. In the meantime I'm drooling at a Santa Cruz Firefly:

I have played a number of Santa Cruz parlors and the Firefly, and the Janis Ian 14 fret parlor plays circles around any of the Firefly models that I have played so you might want to check that one out as well. It would be totally worth it to do a comparison and see what you think.

Well, this Larrivee should fulfill most folks definition of Parlor since it is a Size 1 instrument, which makes it considerably smaller than Larrivee's 0 size Parlor.

The T-40 is a size 1. Scale length is 22.8" It's also a Terz (tuned to A) instead of standard (i.e. tuned to E), although Larrivee is calling it a Tenor for some reason.

Tuning A-to-A is a full step higher, which is what a standard Ukulele is in relationship to standard guitar tuning (and many guitaleles or kikus tune to). it's also what that wonderful Papoose from the defunct Tacoma company used to make. This should be a fun guitar. If you read the write-up, they aren't calling it a Tenor guitar, rather saying the guitar body is that of what you'd expect a Tenor guitar to have. I have a couple similar instruments arleady and they are super fun, and certainly give you another voice when there are too many guitars in a jam, but I suspect they chose to tune up to A because that is a much easier transposition. Terz (G) tuning is a bit awkward for most common keys. Last edited by gr81dorn; 03-28-2019 at 10:41 AM. Reason: I kant spell wunderfull |

There was a discussion on the Larrivee forum when Larrivee first announced the T-40. There was some speculation that they might be tuned A to A.
Recently Larrivee posted some more info "This six string tenor size guitar has a slightly smaller body than our Parlor and O-Body, featuring a custom 22.8" scale, full 14 frets to the body and built for standard tuning." More details at https://www.larrivee.com/news. They are supposed to start shipping in June so we will have to wait and see what they sound like. |
