Default Phantom powered mic > Zoom H4

Perhaps someone can help me. I'm using a DRCX-1 mic going into a Zoom H4, which I set to phantom power 48V, but the signal is very low. When I increase the gain the noise level goes up to an unacceptable level. My question is, could the XLR cable length (12ft & 25ft) have anything to do with that ?

XLR doesn't immediately mean balanced lines. However, no loss of level should be perceptible over a 25' length of cable even if you are running unbalanced lines. First thing to check would be the impedance match and the sensitivity of the mic.

Default Check input channels

The H4 has two separate XLR inputs. See if your problem is with just one of these inputs. That is a very simple way to check the preamps of the H4. If you have the problem on both channels then look for cable, connectors, microphone, impedance, etc.
