Default I FORGOT TO REMEMBER

My latest write for the folks in their 80's at my weekly jam who love ancient country. I figured it was about time I tackled the cheating song concept. I played this a few days ago for some people hanging out in my cousin;s rural general store in Oklahoma. I explained that in 40 years of marriage I've successfully avoided giving into this temptation so this all came from my imagination. When I finished, a grizzled old farmer said "well you got the general idea of what happens. Maybe though if you'd gone to a hooker first you'd have had a few more ideas for it". We all laughed.... except for the old farmer.

(1)
It was written on my face
A truth I couldn't hide
I thought if I came clean
She'd stay by my side
After years of being faithful
In one night I got to learn
How easy a man can find himself
At the point of no return

(2)
I swore to God above
The woman meant nothing to me
All my words kept falling flat
I couldn't get her to see
No way she would listen
I didn't want her to go
Now I'm left here all alone
With all I need to know

(CHORUS)
I FORGOT TO REMEMBER I WAS WHO SHE COUNTED ON
I'M THE ONE WHO PROMISED I'D NEVER DO HER WRONG
I FORGOT TO REMEMBER SHE'S THE ONLY ONE I LOVE
& SHE WILL ALWAYS BE THE ONLY ONE I DREAM OF

(BRIDGE)
I have to accept I should stop calling her phone
She won't answer, she's never coming home
This is the price it's killing me to pay
For a choice I made, I can't take away

(3)
Now all I have are memories
Of a once happy life
And a pain that I earned
That still cuts like a knife
All our years together
I'm watching them all burn
For the fool I was to find myself
At that point of no return (CHORUS)

(TAG)
ALL BECAUSE I FORGOT TO REMEMBER

Those folks in their 80s ought to remember this:

I'm at a loss as to why you posted this? My only guess is you wanted to show me the similarities in song titles? There's no similarity in the songs. While lyrics can be copyrighted, titles can not be.

Good lyrics, been fortunate I haven’t been too interesting to most women and too scared of them to try.

I posted a video on Facebook of playing this and a few other originals and someone saw it who invited me to play at a legendary Dallas, TX venue in Deep Ellum in business since 1910. The Sons of Hermann Hall! I'm not a performer and a rather mediocre singer but two people have since remarked I channel Johnnie Cash with my voice. Uh, that;s a hopelessly nervous quiver they;re hearing. Influential music people hang there though so I'm trying to psyche myself up to go next Thursday. Might have to resort to Townes VanZandt;s half pint of whisskey beforehand!
