Default Mic setup for acoustic guitar

While I was recording a track the other day thought I'd try a standard 12th fret setup plus a boom directly over my back (ie to imitate what my ears were hearing) Never did this before and loved the results. Anyone here ever tried this?

Yep.

How'd you mix the result?

Post your results? I've tried this many times, makes perfect sense, but I've never gotten results I liked.

For my guitar, my mic, and my room, I usually get the best result from what I call a "head mic" ie a mic placed somewhere near my head, probably a little way in front, aimed down towards the guitar.

I think it's good to try every position you can possibly think of and compare them carefully.

Hello
I Panned 30 left and 30 right. What was cool is the over head sounded best with flat EQ. Will experiment more. Thanks for replies

I record that way but with a pair of matched mics on either side of my head and none placed in the traditional locations because I want the recordings to approximate the sound that I hear when I play.

I used to record with a very similar setup (14 th fret and at right ear level, out from my ear about 6-8 inches, right had playing), . with a pair of KSM 44s . Overall the sound was ok.However there was some slight phasing.
Mixed panned 100 left and right, subtractive EQ only .

I have tried that also and although it is closer to the sound the player gets it is further from the sound the audience gets (out in front of the guitar) and IMO is not amenable to the best sound you can achieve in a recording.
