Default Front Yard Jam Installment 6: Cabin on a Mountain by Vern Williams

Davey sings one! Camera work by my wife

Davey is playing a Flatiron mandolin, I'm playing my Martin D-18GE. Camera is a Samsung Galaxy 20+ operated by my wife. Way better quality than I expected straight from a phone!

Man, that Flatiron is really putting out!

So no mics or interface, just the phone for audio as well as video??

Yep, straight into (and out of) the phone!

I've been telling him since we first played together that Flatiron is a *great* sounding instrument! I have Monels on that Martin and while I love the tone, they aren't as loud as phosphor bronze strings (but they last forever!). The Collings I'm playing on a couple of the installments is the loudest acoustic guitar I've ever played - including Martin Authentics, highest-end Collings, Huss and Daltons, Bourgeois, etc. It's just a great guitar that I lucked into!

Good fun. As a CA Bay Area guy, I like being by the sea, but the tune was well done. Makes me miss catching the occasional folk players at bars, restaurants, etc during COVID.

Well done!

Cheers

Dave

Thanks guys!

It's funny, I started playing at age five because my brother-in-law played. He did it professionally for a few years, including a stint in Gatlinburg, TN in the late '60's. All the bands (and nearly all were folk/bluegrass) did the circuit of the restaurants, etc. every afternoon around 6pm or so basically giving the diners a chance to hear what their shows would sound like at wherever they were playing that night. It was a heck of a lot of fun and as a kid I loved it.

Fast forward about 10 years and *I* was a touring musician and one of the things I did was spend a couple summers playing in a band in Gatlinburg. That was a blast!

Fast forward another 30 years and I finally went back to Gatlinburg. Holy cow! I barely even recognized it at all. The quiet little valley where I used to live in a trailer for 50 bucks a month is now completely developed, and it seems like Gatlinburg is essentially one big city that includes Pigeon Forge. Of course, when I lived and played there there was no Dollywood or anything...lol
