That's tough to answer since it's a snippet of the time when it first came out, and today's audience might have trouble relating when taken out of context. I saw it when it came out in a small theater in Lexington, VA. The audience had quite a few VMI cadets, and there was an outpouring of applause in the final scene.

Of course, we get to see Jack Nicholson in one of his first big parts and Phil Spector in his lone movie role...

They were APPLAUDING the cold blooded killings of these men? That's TERRIBLE.

I think I may have seen it with my friend Jim who was going to room with me at Purdue until he got taken by West Point. no one was laughing.....
