I've heard good things about Northfield. I got an Eastman MD-505 for around $750 new from Mass Street Music. I really like it. One day I may get a Collings but I'm happy with my Eastman.

A Breedlove Quartz will be headed my way, care of posternutbag.

The really annoying part is in my searches and watching videos, I grew to like the Fylde Touchstone mandolin. But, they are build to order and cost more and I would have to wait 5 months. I couldn't find a used and therefore cheaper and quicker one. So, part of me wants the Breedlove to be all I need, and part of me hopes a really like these tiny instruments so I can order a handmade one.

Stupid Mando acquisition syndrome.

I swear part of the syndrome is liking the chase and learning about new instruments.

Just as an update...

I've had the Breedlove for a handful of weeks and I am really enjoying messing about on it. I put on backing tracks of just about anything and see if I can find the right area, scale, or notes to fit in. I really aught to learn more chords and get them down and then learn the common scales so I won't be guessing so much, but for now, I'm just teaching my fingers where to be with this narrow neck and small fret spacings.

It's a really cool addition to my collection of instruments.
