Default Slow As Lightnin'

Really enjoying all the good stuff here, so I thought I would give it a try. This is a Steve James tune, a blues "in the style of" Mr. Hopkins. Played on my Voyage Air OM-4 with the stock PB strings into a zoom h4n, internal mics, no processing. Thanks for listening!

Hey Bob, nicely done. I play that tune of Steve's... sweet little number. He does a good job of incorporating a lot of Lightnin's favorite licks in a short tune. And as Steve says, it sounds better the slower you play it.

Hi Kerbie--I'm glad to hear you also play this tune. Slow is good! I was not aware of Steve James until my teacher had me buy one of his books. This is my favorite number so far!

Hi Sprintbob--Thanks for listening. I'm still working on "Key to the Kingdom" trying to get it up to the speed that you and Kerbie play it at

Great tune and playing. I love a slow blues.

Check out "Loan Me Dime" by Boz Scaggs with Duane Allman playing lead recorded in Muscle Shoals. 12 minutes of slow burn.

I really enjoyed that! Very nice playing! And at least for me, often slower tempo's seem more difficult your playing is so exposed. Didn't sound like that is a problem for you!

Thank you, Joe!

Regarding Loan Me a Dime, thanks to the magic of the internet I can say that I first heard it done on May 10, 1974 in Springfield, Massachusetts. All on my own I remember that Boz was opening for Loggins and Messina (Boz was just of the brink of exploding) and unfortunately Duane couldn't be there.

I also remember buying the album shortly afterwards, and turning a lot of folks onto that tune. Still one of my faves, too. Thanks for those good memories, Joe !

Thanks Mike! I can go slow, at least to start. I can also speed way up on the tricky parts Nice of you to listen and comment.

One of my favorites too. I saw Boz in 2018 and he ended the show with a 12 min version of Loan me a Dime. I think there were 4 electric guitar players that shared in the soloing. I play it with my kid who goes off on the A blues scale. Lot's of fun.

Nice, so your kid can channel Jerry and Duane, and he's not even old enough to drive Your Dead covers also look like a lot of fun!
