Perfect fit, the speakers are mounted inside. It sounds great! What a wonderful project to have saved this piano!
I like it! What a great way to not only upgrade the sounds, but get complete control over the volume part of the equation too.

We had somebody give us a 1928 Steinway that had been rebuilt at least once. She paid the moving costs, but just to tune it and do a basic mechanical checkup and adjustment was close to $400. On this piano, the entire mechanical works (keyboards, hammers and so on) all came out in one fairly cohesive block. It is an interesting idea to replace that with a digital unit and speakers and keep the piano (if you have room). Right now, in Vermont there are 5 baby grand pianos on Craig's List for free. I think owning one of these could be an expensive hobby...

Honestly, I don’t know. I do know that they left the strings intact. Obviously, they removed the keys and hammers and whatever it was attached to so if the soundboard was part of that, then they did take it out. I also know that with what was removed, they’re thinking to have it mounted in an illuminated shadow box and hang on a wall in the same room as the piano as a large art piece. That seems pretty cool as well.
