Default How to get the right tuning key

Hi everyone, I am not really a guitar person but I got my old electric guitar out of the loft for my son and he broke a tuning key. Is there an easy and inexpensive way for me to find the correct sort to replace it? It is not a great or expensive guitar and so I don’t want to spend too much on it.

Thanks in advance for any help

Can you post some pictures, so we can see the tuning keys and what kind of guitar? That would be a great help.

And welcome to the forum!

Call Sweetwater with the guitar in your hand so you can answer questions, see what they can come up with. I'd give up on trying to find one key, you'll probably need to just get a set, but who knows?

Clarkey, Welcome to the AGF. I agree with Paleolith54 (^) that Sweetwater, or some other store, may be able to help you find the correct size so you don't need to drill holes. You'll need pics and measurements though.

As far as pics, you need to first upload to a hosting site such as imgur (free) before posting here unless you're a Charter Member.

Yes, go online to stewmac.com. Then look in parts and hardware/tuning keys. Look for a match. Let us know how you do

Welcome, Clarkey. It appears you're trying to attach an image directly from your desktop and that's a privilege reserved for our charter members. You may become a charter member right here and that will enable you to attach an image from your desktop.

You may view this post for directions on how to post pics. Without a membership, you may still post a picture using two other methods... the Tapatalk app or a third-party host like Imgur. If you have any questions, send me a private message.

Why not take it to a local music store? If they do repairs, they might have something in the shop that matches.
