- Microtech-Gefell UM 900 Tube LDC ($4200 new). My baritone voice's All-Time Best LDC. Variable, 5-polar patterns, M7 capsule, only studio LDC to run on phantom power. Try this deco beauty. You'll be amazed! Even vintage U-47's couldn't match the UM900 on my voice.

Thanks again for all the work, Jim. Great threads!

Added, and thanks.

Default Peluso P-28 Tube SDC

Aloha Jim,

No, THANK YOU, brah. For AGF'ers to be able to see the latest recording gear & pricing listed in one place is a great service, Jim. Mahalo for compiling it!

Is there room for one more great SDC guitar mic on the list?

The Peluso P-28 Tube SDC (New, $1099.00)

We never see this great mic mentioned much at AGF, even though it's priced in the same range as its peers, Microtech-Gefell M300 & the Neumann KM-184.

I prefer the P-28 to either of those fine mic's & owned a pair for years. Check out the video clips @ guys at Soundpure for clues:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6Vh3Ff6EO8

Mahalo a nui, Jim!

Just letting folks know that if you have any additions you believe warrant inclusion on our master gear list, feel free to leave a post and I'll add them.

As of version 5, Studio One Artist ($100 or bundled) is a full-featured DAW, but doesn't include some of the advanced and mastering features of Studio One Pro. IMO it deserves inclusion in the list.

I have some edits:

SDCs: I have the Shure KSM 137 $300 (same as island guitar), not the SM 137 $180 as listed. Sorry for the confusion.

LDCs: 797 Audio CR998. 3U Audio MKII, 3U audio CM1 Teal.

Ribbons: Royer R10. Samar Audio AL95.

Dynamics: Shure Unidyne III 545S. Electrovoice EV664

I'm not going to include multiple levels of any DAW because I think that becomes confusing. So for the same reason I don't think it's a good idea to separately list Pro Tools Ultimate, Pro Tools, and Pro Tools First as three distinct DAWs, I'm going to let "Studio One" cover any different versions and levels of that DAW.

I cannot find a single 797 Audio CR998 for sale anywhere and the company website says it's discontinued so I'm leaving that one out since no one can get it. I added the rest to the list.

I've used two dynamic mics quite a bit for vocals myself:

Shure SM7b
ElectroVoice RE20

I keep that last one in my small home office "Studio B" where the ability to work close and reject a surprising amount of environmental noise is critical.

I'd suggest in the longer lists it'd be helpful if they were alphabetized. I'm pretty sure those two mics weren't listed, but I might have missed them in the list.

Mics are added.

As for alphabetical order, when people are looking for mics to consider, the cost is a common limitation so I think listing the gear from lowest to most expensive is more helpful.

I didn't do that with DAWs because with so many DAWs have varying price levels and I didn't want to get bogged down having to figure out the price for every variation of a particular DAW.

I could have gone either way with interfaces but I thought seeing the same brands scattered on the list would be more confusing than helpful, so I bunched them by brands rather than in order of cost.

For everything else (mics, preamps, compressors, eqs), cost is almost always the first consideration so I listed all the mics and analog gear in order of price.

I created this master list because we get so many threads asking for recommendations from people who want to start recording. The list lets that AGFer see what many of us are using within his/her price range without having to wait for responses. It gives them the opportunity to ask more pointed questions about specific gear and, for the rest of us, we don't have to repeat ourselves so often because the gear we use is right there for anyone to see.

I added the mic system but I'm not going to list all the capsules separately so I just gave the available choices.

Wow, some amazing gear listed
I have a humble but nice set up.
Neumann M-149, AkG 414, and a few dynamics
Great river 2 channel pre amp.
Apogee Rosetta 200
I ve been using Calkwalk sonar ( platinum ) and most attempts at mixing happen in the box.

I now have a great sounding room but my weakest link are the monitors, which will be remedied this winter.

Jim1960, I regret not being able pick up the Rosetta 800 you were selling. It was a killer deal. But I did wind up getting the Martin D-35 that I was gassing for.

Jim I guess you're going to have to add

Jim 1960 to the Avid Carbon and MOTU 16 lists

No problem at all. The Rosetta sold pretty quickly. Good luck with the D-35!

Yep, but it won't be in my hands until tomorrow and it's going to take some time to get it up and running. A couple of days before I sold the X16, I did update the iMac to Catalina and I updated PT and UA to the newest versions of their software. I'm really looking forward to getting the Carbon up and running.
