Barry, that recording is really beautiful. The timbre of your playing on that cheap classical guitar brings to my mind the soundtracks from late 50s European cinema.

It's a tie for me. Also in my signature.....

Yamaha FG730S that I leave at my daughters house in N.C. so I have one there when I visit several times a year.

Next, a Fender CT-60S that serves as my travel guitar.

Both solid Spruce tops, both $199. Both play great and sound pretty good too.

Of what I own now; an 1895-1902 00 Bruno for 1300. Cheapest ever was probably my first; a Kent or Kay I bought at a pawn shop for 18 dollars. One months pay for delivering papers in the wee hours of the 'morn.

Of what I own today, this Recording King parlor.
Solid top and, at $199, it was a great SDOTD deal!

Long gone, but IIRC around $75 when new in 1969 was my Yamaha FG-75.
(Not my pic)

I paid $320 for a used Godin 5th Avenue archtop acoustic. I added a custom Charlie Christian style blade pickup for about $150 more. It’s unique because it sounds like a jazz box unplugged or plugged in. In an amp designed for acoustic guitars it sounds very woody. In an electric amp it sounds close to an ES-150.

I also only paid $300 for a Córdoba GK-Studio. The local Best Buy was closing out its instrument section and it was the second to last guitar they had. I made the manager a lowball offer I thought he’d reject and counter, but he took it.

I do miss my Seagull cedar topped folk guitar. Bought it used for $300 and sold it with a case for $400.

Nothing wrong with inexpensive guitars at all.

$50 Canadian. Currently at a skilled luthier for a rebuild, bone saddle, nut, refret, etc. Did not need a neck set.

I played for over 25 years before buying an acoustic that cost more than $700. My cheapest is the one I learned on. A 1980 Yamaha SJ180. It was my main acoustic until 2005 and remained my main guitar to play around the house until 2017. Still plays great and I keep it strung in nashville tuning at this moment.

The Lotus in my signature. It was my father-in-laws, thought he wanted to learn to play. Lasted about 6 months. When he passed it came to me.

So I guess free.

About 15 years ago my nephew want to learn so it went to him. Then he decided he didn't want it any more. It came back to me last summer. Man is it beat up.

Put a little TLC into it and its a player again. Still needs some tuning machines. But I think I will leave the big scraps and dings.

It is definitely not the worst sounding guitar I have.

I was gifted a fantastic acoustic guitar so I guess that it would count even though it would be worth over $3,000.00 if I paid for it.

The lowest price that I have paid for a new guitar is a tie between an Alvarez Baritone and a Washburn acoustic electric which were $400.00 each.

Huh. This would have been good to know about 140 guitars ago....

Anyone remember the Silvercreek deals like 10 years ago? I got an all solid wood OM model for $99. I haven't played it in a while, but it's pretty good for $99.

My Yamaha G-85A set me back $75 in 1977. So glad a started out with a classical as it gave me a good foundation in fingerstyle playing.

My Recording King Dirty 30s parlor is in the $200 range new if I am not mistaken. Took it in trade for a Reunion Blues gig bag that was slow to sell. Had no intention of keeping the guitar. Was just going to try and sell it instead of the bag. Took it to the luthier for a look see before putting it up for sale. He made a few quick adjustments and got the action just the same as on my other guitars. We put a new set of phosphor bronze strings on it to boot. Been almost 2 years gone by and I still haven’t put it up for sale. Sounds decent, looks pretty good, and I can leave it out on a stand without worrying about it. Play it on the back porch or in the yard at least a couple of times a week and pick it up for a few minutes or so cause it’s there a couple more times a week. Good to have.

Jeff
