The deal-breaker for me is the 1-11/16" nut width on a Martin MLO neck profile. Fifteen minutes on one of those and my left hand aches for the rest of the day. That started roughly around age 48-50, and forced me to sell off all Martin guitars. But anything else can be played pain free for 2-3 hours. Two hours on a Taylor neck at bluegrass last Thursday night -- no problem. I can even play for hours on a Taylor 1-11/16" nut on my 114ce. Go figure.... |

I agree the Rainsong N2 is a bit odd but for some reason it totally fits the huge JM1000. Feels like it belongs on a Gibson J200. I never like it on my smaller Rainsongs.

I currently have 2 Emeralds, but have owned all the major brands. Emeralds are my favorite, but the McPherson Sable is a very close second.

My Rainsong "AGF Shorty" from Ted.
I used it for almost everything on my last album except for the songs in DADGAD, where I used my Larrivee. And of course the 12-string tracks, where I used my WS-3000 https://markhorning.bandcamp.com/album/lands-lore

My Rainsong H-OM gets the most play. It’s comfy and sounds great. Amped up, I can EQ it how I like.
Emerald X-30, while feeling smaller than you’d think, it is still a big guitar. I’m 5’ 5” tall and on my the guitar looks like a cello. But it is full and rich, and the neck is really comfortable. I sometimes think an X-20 would have been a better call, but I own it and play it. My Black Ice WS doesn’t get any play time. The sound is similar to the OM, so no need.

After a near miraculous setup, my X30 dominated playing time to the extent that I sold the X7….
