My wife has grudgingly come to accept my beard. I get positive(looks great!) to negative(you look oooold!). It started with the lock-downs and I found my skin thanked me for not slicing it up on a daily basis.

Frankly, I don't get the appeal of bushy beards. The way I see it, a large part of the population is cosplaying as vikings.
That being said, I keep my beard trimmed and shaped just like I landscape. I find that having some growth keeps gravity from having its way.

If I not sporting a full beard it goes down to a “Sam Elliot” mustache.
I like both, but not shaving everyday is a real plus!

I think I started growing a beard full time in my late 20s (almost 55 now). My GF/De Facto wife (10 years) objected (strenuously) the one time I tried shaving it off.
I like not having to deal with shaving, which always irritated my skin (particularly the neck). Makes getting ready in the morning quicker. That, and after so many years, my face looks strange to me when I remove the beard.

I grow a beard every winter. I work out in the cold and it really helps. I shave it off as soon as I break a s sweat in the spring. It makes me look 10 years younger.

I find it curious how some guys here happily sustained facial hair during the years of strenuous snogging. For the gals, it must have been like trying to make out with a hairbrush!

Military for 8 years and then my civilian career required me to be clean shaven. After retirement in 2016 I said no more shaving until I feel like it... Still have the beard, and enjoy having it. I do trim up occasionally, when the wife gets tired of the wild look....

When I was in the Navy beards and moustaches were allowed. 1971, flight deck USS Independence. I'm the one in the middle.
Navy beard.jpg Man, that was a long time ago.

I don't have a beard because they are ugly and they itch. Anything as cool as beards are right now must be bad.

I guess it is a good thing I have kept my beard all these years because today I had my wife cut all my hair (on my head) off. Due to some medication I am taking, my hair is falling out and it started looking as if I walked out of the barber shop halfway through a hair cut. At least I still have some hair, just not on my head. I haven't decided if I should go for the Telly Savalas look with the tootsie roll pop sticking out of my mouth or the Buddhist monk look and wear a robe.

Mine's been going since 1970. I keep it trimmed and see it as part of who i am. My wife wonders what I'd look like without it but has refrained from asking for a demonstration.
But I have no mustache - they give me fever blisters. I spend seconds shaving each night but should I forget, no one notices. think of the hours saved over the years, plus the cost of hot water, blades... Hey, I could buy a guitar with the savings.
