Default New original "Serene" on a Mark Hatcher 'Greta' model (Italian/Brazilian)

Hey AGF,

Here's a title track from my 5th album release—it’s a mid-tempo waltz that uses ethereal chord voicings, vivid lyrics and most importantly--space—to paint a perspective of time, decay and the serenity found in our collective state of impermanence.

I penned the lyrics with the ghostly character of the Cascades in Washington and the winding streets of Amsterdam on my mind. I found so much beauty and emotional connection to both of those places in my 20s and always think fondly of them now.

The incense might come across as gimmicky at first (I live in Asheville now, what can I say) but it’s meant to add a tangible visual of time and the beginning, middle and end to all things.

The song comes to a climax as it modulates by way of a quick capo-shift following the instrumental solo section. Two-handed technique to fret bass notes with the right hand while fretting higher chords with the left hand is used for the turn-around and outro sections, creating a wider frequency range in those moments like a piano player would have.

It felt good to return to writing in standard tuning for this song, as I'd been practically living in DADGAD for almost 2 years with my songwriting.

Cheers, and thanks for listening. This song is available on all platforms and if you'd like to support I have CD's available on my website.

Ah, delicious, Dustin!!! Extraordinary playing, lyrics, vocal and melody.....wow.....
Had a memory of first hearing this song on your CD as we headed west in our car out of Norfolk after meeting you and catching your set last October. Lovely to listen once again and see you in action on this video.

Take good care my friend and thanks for posting!
