Thanks for both of these: I think everyone is perhaps a "Country Boy" at heart. These made me smile - and who else could get Johnny Cash and Glen Campbell in the band and not get upstaged?

Another little-known fact for a lot of folks: he wrote Leaving on a Jet Plane which was a big hit for Peter, Paul and Mary.

Country Boy gets me in a good mood every time I listen to that song.

That was the only song I ever saw him play the fiddle on, I kind of get the impression he learned to play that one and that was it haha. He looks like he is thinking pretty hard when he is playing.

Leaving on a Jet Plane was his break out hit. He first started touring after that song. He played at a local high school when I was too young to go, but the sign said Writer of "Leaving on a Jet Plane" in big letters and in small letters at the bottom it said "John Denver" lol!

John Denver was quite the song writer, Sunshine on My Shoulders, lots of sincere and down to earth songs written / produced by him.

Funny this was posted, we just got home from seeing a JD tribute act at a local place. Great show, first time hearing live music, other than my own, in a long time.
