I played a j-15, j-45 and j-45 studio in the same room as the DSS-17. It was like baby toy poodles trying to take on an alligator!

Dreads to jumbos to OMs to classical. Those have been my charmed life picks.

..it might of been the dark side in 1972 but Gibson jumbos have been a pretty dang popular guitar for awhile now...you gotta let the seventies go man...

I also fell for a DSS-17WS...it's easily more guitar than it's price point. Been stealing all my lap time from way more expensive models I have but there is something about the raw, woody, fundamental power of this guitar. Well...that and it feels like it might float off of your lap if you let go of it? I'm afraid I'm hooked?

I can't help but wonder if the upper bout shape isn't more ideal for an acoustic guitar.
I remember reading where Ovation had taken all sorts of measurements to come up with the ideal shape, and as it turns out it's kind of a slope shoulder shape on the upper bout.

Er, Gibson don't make dreads, they make jumbos.

By "round shouldered " dread you'd be describing the "original " dread.

This is a particular "bee in my bonnet"

I've become quite the slope shoulder jumbo fan myself. I don't know what makes them so comfortable to play, whether it's the shorter scale or what, but I know that I like them quite a bit.

I still have some square shouldered long scale dreads that aren't going anywhere, though.

I mean, he's got a point. If we can just agree to call the square shoulder guitars dreadnaughts and the slope shouldered ones jumbos, then we don't have to type "slope shouldered dreadnaughts" all the time.

May be... then again, you haven't played my 'gator killer J45 either.
I'll still take it over that Martin.
I'm sure the Martin is superb, it's just not a J45.
