Default I Will

Here's a recording I did on the latest guitar I built. It is a Martin style 00 12 fret slothead, about 2 months old. Englemann top with Indian Rosewood back and sides.

The playing is rough, because although I practiced till I could get 5 plays in a row without a serious error; pushing the record button releases a quart of adrenaline in me!

I started building and playing after I retired, but my building is better than my playing!

Anyway, thanks for letting me try to get over my stage fright by posting occasionally.

Thanks for the kind words Fred! I really appreciate it.

And it's nice to know I'm not the only person out there with red light syndrome!

Very enjoyable to listen to, thanks for sharing this.

I like the way you carry the melody above the accompaniment (both volume and note length). The character of your guitar shows through as well.

I think I have said before, it must be very special to be able to play an instrument like a guitar that you have made yourself, and for it to sound so good.

i would suggest the ‘Red Light syndrome’ is quite common amongst us amateurs. I found improvement by following the suggestion of others and keep the recorder going well before I expect to make the definitive take - getting used to the idea that it is recording, but also that the recordings are ‘disposable’.

Thanks Rod for the comments! I really do enjoy being able to make music on my own instruments. It gives me a lot of satisfaction.

And I'm going to use your suggestion and just let the recorder run. I'd never have guessed it made you nervous too, because your recordings are absolutely professional!

Thanks Hairpuller! The arrangement is by Tony Rowden and is free on his site. He has a lot of arrangements, some free, and some for a very nominal fee. Here is the url for his website:

Nice of you to say so, but you haven’t heard the early attempts and those that got binned in the process.....

Thanks so much Reeve. I really worked at bringing out the melody, I'm finally at a stage with guitar to where I can work on musicality a little more successfully!
