Default Finish Experts- Trying to get a perfect autumny classic burst

Hey all-

Been super enamored with the new 'Classic' finish on some of Eastmans new acoustics, as below-

http://www.martinmusicguitar.com/eas...h-183-200.html

I'm shaving down the top of an acoustic, and as part of the process would love to take a crack at this lovely finish. How would you go about it?

It looks like a hand rubbed stain to me, but that's only conjecture. I've not ever done anything quite like it before, but I am good at executing things if I understand the core concepts at work...

Insight? Thanks all-
