Default New tune, written this week called Along the Firth ( played on Yamaha LJ56 )

Here is a first sketch of a new tune written a couple of days ago. I live on the English Scottish border and am lucky enough to be able to walk out of my back door and walk up the river to the Solway Firth. I walked up there two days ago, looking for the changes in the season on an autumnal day. I made a coffee when I got back, reached for my Sobell, which just happened to be in Csus2 and came up with this tune.
Today, it was a lovely Yamaha LJ56 that was out, so I recorded the tune before I forget about it. The Yamaha has only been with me for a couple of months or so and it was nice to explore a drop tuning on a relatively new guitar. I am really enjoying this guitar, having used it a lot lately.
Hope you enjoy it.

I love it - really evocative of the area you live in and just a great sound all-round..

I used to live in a small village called Allonby and my house looked out onto the Solway Firth and I spent many hours playing with a good friend in his attic studio back in those days - it's a beautiful place.

Thanks for that.

I know Allonby very well and often walk along the coast there. There is always a queue at the shop there with folks waiting to get the best ice cream in the county

I'm looking forward to seeing the first geese arriving back on the marshes along with the other flocks of winter visitors. There is something very evocative about being out there on a cold winters day and hearing and seeing the huge flocks of birds. I always come back inspired.

Lovely tune and great tone!
May I ask how you get your recorded sound?

Thanks,

Thanks Bill,

For this one it was an AKG4000 pointed to the 12t fret and an AKG3000B towards the bridge. I put the mics through an Apogee Ensemble and added a light touch of compression and EQ along with some room reverb.

Great stuff. Brought to mind Billy Connoly's World Tour of Scotland program from the 90's. This would have been a perfect addition to the soundtrack as Billy observed the rich and diverse scenery.

Thanks for that.

The guitar in question has overtones in abundance in any tuning, but dropping it to C was quite an eyeopener.

Wow, Gary!

That was beautiful! Your song really has that colorful Scottish sound to it! Just lovely! And lovely playing!

I don't know much about my Irish and Scottish heritage, but some things stir me; like this tune. Wonderful job! Thanks.
