best heavy pinky slide that won't break the bank?
My best for size is a Dunlop Blues Bottle 274—stays on comfortably, sounds ok, etc. But my unwieldy Clayton Pork Knuckle sounds SO MUCH better. Trouble is it's a little too loose on my ring finger, and I slide with my pinky.
Anyone know a good alternative that comes in a small/small medium? Any material but metal, and under $30 (<$20 if possible). |

How about a Rocky Mountain Slide. They are ceramic slides and sound great. They have many models and come in different lengths and wall thicknesses. I have a Monarch in the Yeller Dawg color that fits perfectly to the second knuckle of my pinky. The really thick walled model is the Tomichi and I have one of those as well and there is a noticible difference in how the two sound. It doesn't fit my pinky as well though. The slides are about $26 bucks so within your budget. Each color supposedly has a different sound, but I'm not sure about that.

Jim Dunlops are inexpensive. Cheaper than making one from a wine bottle.

3/4" wide adhesive back velcro tape will snug it up on your pinky.

That would be my suggestion also, seems like a no brainer as you Americans say. 😀

My preferred one is a brass one that is thicker on one end with a concave surface quite matching the fretboard curvature.
Sorry, I cannot give a name. If you want one for free, there is a YT video showing how to make your own bottleneck slide.

Thanks for the suggestions! I like the look of those Rocky Mountain slides, and it seems they've got all kinds of sizes.
Sure I've been using the Pork Knuckle with a little stuffing, but it never quite feels right (granted I could probably do a better job of the padding). I'm bound to break it sooner or later though, so I figure I'll pick up a couple of others in the meantime. |

Hi, over the years, I have discovered that the heavier the better for bottlenecks enabling me to use them with subtlety.
I have reverted to my mass produced Dunlop style 224. It's brass, it's heavy and it works. see this video, and in particular about 7.00 in.

Dunlop has a few ceramic/porcelain slides that come pretty small. The Joe Perry signature medium-short fits my pinky well and I would say I have medium sized hands. Nice slide except maybe for the branding . There’s a sizing table floating around somewhere.
Disclaimer- I am not a slide player- just messing around. |
