Indeed. A worthy accomplishment.

Good on him. While he plays for a team I cannot root for, I’m glad for him and am glad it’s being celebrated.

And I am glad they ain’t gonna slap an asterisk on it.

It is quite an achievement, and it is nice to have the accomplishment untainted (as far as we know).

Agreed. The last time it was not enhanced was in 61 but Judge did it in more games. Of course Maris had more games in his season than Ruth who held the record previously and they wanted an asterisk for that one too.

Baseball Almanac says Maris hit # 61 in Game 163.

Interesting. It says the Yankees record was 109-53-1. I had no idea there were ties back then.

I find it interesting that Maris hit 61 home runs in 1961 and 61 years later, Aaron Judge breaks that record.

It depends how you count it. The game Maris hit 61 in was a makeup for a game that was stopped while tied.

By the way, Maris hit 60 in fewer plate appearances than Ruth. He never deserved that asterisk.

They only played 154 games in 1927. 1961 was the first year they expanded to 162 games.

Here's a good comparison of Ruth's 1927 season and Maris's 1961:
