Default Isolation project day

Found some old scratched-up records on the cheap and decided to try my hand at a DIY tele pick guard. I like the way it turned out.

That's pretty cool! How fragile are they? Also, would think it would easily show scratches? Or do you coat it somehow?

That is so cool! Is making pickguards out of records "a thing"? I've never heard of that but I like it.

I saw one done somewhere and remember thinking I could probably do it. It is a little thinner than a typical plastic or Bakelite guard, but it’s also plenty thick. I’m not too concerned about scratches, but it should just wear like a plastic guard. Thanks for the compliment!

Interesting project. I wouldn't sacrifice any of my LPs, but it's still kinda cool. I spent my day helping to convert my studio into my wife's home office. Mixed feelings. But I'm glad that we can both continue to work.

That's pretty cool. Can/Did you seal the label? I would think you'd want to protect that. A Waylon album was a good choice, I think.

Thanks for the feedback,

I didn’t seal the label as they seem to be stuck on well. I actually tried to get one to come off and couldn’t. The records I have to use are scratched or warped beyond repair, but I plan on trying a couple more.

Ha-oh I’m sure the label will come off eventually-just part of the character. I rough cut the shape with a cutting wheel on a dremel then sanded down to shape. It was a bit messy and time consuming.

I bet it was. Did you make a template or is the pickguard the same shape as the original, and you used that as a template.??

Yeah I just used the original as a template and scored it with a razor blade.
