Really ? that was quick I wonder if they might be some of the machines returned because of fan noise (which was apparently only some not all) Also some of the base models may have been retuned from people deciding they needed more memory or storage or both

Just checked the US refurb store and there is one base model for $1700

I'll let you know...one of the base model boxes (32Gb with 512Gb SSD) will be arriving at Casa Curmudgeon before the end of next week...it'll be a significant upgrade of my 2014 i5 8Gb 256Gb SSD Mini.

The "new" refurb Mac Studio (base model) arrived on Wednesday and I set it up this morning (Saturday). It's much quieter than a mouse...no discernible noise at all.

Had no real issues until I got to Migrating all of my apps/setting/files from the old i5 Mac Mini. Turns out the Studio shipped with an OLDER OS (presumably an earlier incarnation of Monterey but in the middle of the Setup Assistant I couldn't check on that) than the 12.4 that was on the Mini. Migration Assistant recommended that the OS be upgraded to match the source before proceeding. Of course the Setup Assistant couldn't be updated during use so it hung on a warning window and there was no way out of it.

Ended up having to power the Studio off and restart it to resume the OS update (which Apple insists is an "upgrade") and -- to my relief -- at the end the OS restarted back into the Setup Assistant at the Migration Assistant. Other than some Adobe apps, and of course all of Apple's defaults regardless of your actual settings, everything went swimmingly.
