Yeah I think it was 3 years ago the Aussie dollar was higher than the US dollar for the first time that I can ever remember.

But guitars etc even secondhand are more expensive here. My Classic Vibe 60s Strat cost me $500 used. Squier.com.au have them online for over $1000.00

One question I do have is do I really need a tube amp?

I know everyone says they sound better etc but Ive also read that they are better suited to louder environments where you can crank them right up.

I play at home in my loungeroom and its not up very loud or my neighbours would complain. And rom what Ive read solid state are better at lower volumes.

Ive found a Fender Mustang 1 for $150 on eBay. What are your thoughts on that?

No thoughts at all?? Lucky I didnt buy it then.

I ended up getting a Ashton VP50 all valve amp for $170.00

Congrats! What's the strength of the Ashton? Some amps have their strengths with sparkling cleans or a great OD channel, or great gain.

It has good cleans. A warm vintage tone apparently. The reverb doesn't work on it so Im currently trouble shooting it now.
