Might need to have you experiment on one for me...

Default Monadnock Art Tour 20

Just a reminder that I will have my studio open as part of the Monadnock Art Tour 20 this coming weekend. Here is a link to the site: http://www.monadnockart.org/index.php/art-tour

It is customary to offer a snack and something to drink at the studios. If you require a little push maybe this will help to entice you. The ever patient Mrs Hatcher is making a special batch of her Hatcher's crackers:

So we're talking whole wheat crackers with Herbes de Provence spices and shredded Pecorino Romano cheese.

See you soon!
Mark

Much success with your open studio. Those crackers look fantastic. Sure hope there are some left when I visit next week.

I'd say a woman that kind, patient and talented deserves a Brazilian rosewood rolling pin. Or perhaps something more close-pored, like ebony? Bloodwood?
Something will come to hand. Have fun at the open house!

The next batch are going to be little guitars! Not sure if any will be left. I'm told to expect between 300 and 1,000 visitors over the two days. This tour is considered one of the best art crawls in the Northeast and I'm the only guitar maker. Should be fun!

I wonder how much an ebony rolling pin would weigh. That would be cool.
I have large Cocobolo stock that would do the trick, Hmm

We might start debating if different wood might change the flavor of the dough...

Hmmm....maybe its just me, but I am wondering if it is a good idea to give your wife a dense, heavy, non-porous rolling pin....just sayin

The art tour was a great success! We were busy the whole time and met a lot of interested folks. It appears I may even have several sales! The best part for me was a number of the locals said they thought it was really great that I was in the area doing what I do. What a welcoming thing to say to a relatively new guy to the community!

Now it's back to work. The Magpie guitar is off to the finisher. Here are a couple pictures of the Bastogne Walnut/cedar Josie small jumbo coming along. These are the back bracing going on and the first side being bent:

We're going to see this one turning into a guitar very soon!

Congratulations, and well-deserved! It's so nice to get such a warm welcome from the community. Good stuff, Mark!

Default Prigress Pictures

Today I bent the second side, made the heel and tail blocks and glued that all up. I also glued up the neck blanks with the laminates:

We are going with African Blackwood binding and trim but we decided to go with Brazilian Rosewood for the fretboard and bridge. We agreed on these pieces:

The dark brown in the of the BRW matches the color of the African Blackwood and the lighter streaks in the BRW goes very well with the top color. It's a subtle way to help marry the color of the top with the rest of the guitar.
Additionally, there is no better bridge wood for tone. IMO

Thanks for following along!
Mark

Love the way the bridge (and lower fretboard) tie in the top. Really nice.
