Default NGD Emerald X30

My X30 finally arrived yesterday, yeeeeaaah

More or less everything has been already said about this guitar, but that one had a few custom options:
- Slotted headstock, just because it’s an amazing design
- Fumed oak veneer. I wanted something subtle. As expected it looks almost black in low light, but the straight grain and the central sapwood show up nicely in daylight. I added a few real life pix next to the «official» ones.
- Solid black finish. Initially I just wanted to avoid the uneven weaves I often noticed at the junction neck/slotted headstock... and I think it looks cool!
- PUTW UST pickup. I’m not a fan of the Element so I thought I would give that one a try... haven’t plugged the guitar yet though
- String-through bridge. With the deported sound hole the access from the inside is easy even to only change 1 broken string. I already swapped the strings for some Elixir Phosphore Light, and it was super easy (easier than with the Emerald pinless design)
- Custom neck shape with a soft V (based on a Collings OM1)

I’m extremely happy with the guitar. It sounds great, it looks amazing (I have a slight bias!), and it feels sooooo comfortable. With all the bevels and contours it doesn’t feel much bigger than a X20 on my lap, and is much easier to play than a dread.

As for the craftsmanship, it’s perfect as far as I can tell. No mark, dent, sharp fret or imperfection that I could see. Great set-up as well.

I like my new toy

That is gorgeous. I especially love that finish on your headstock.

That is gorgeous - elegant is the word that springs to mind. I, too, love the slotted headstock. It’s very well proportioned to the overall design.

Did you just go for solid black on the neck and headstock, or the body as well? It’s tough to tell from the photos.

Gorgeous guitar.

So you run the strings through the sound port then through the pin holes and out.

How did they do the design under the bridge?

Is the pinhole simply small enough that end of the string won't slip out, or is there a metal plate installed, or something entirely different?

How exactly does it work?

Results-wise, mine looks the same (Journey OF660) but I use small aluminum washers I slip over the string first then up through the bridge pin hole.

Beautiful. The one remaining Emerald that I'm gonna be curious about until I someday get a chance to play one. Enjoy!

T0f...

Fellow X30 man in waiting! Glad to see she arrived safe and sound, and u r waiting no more!

What a beautiful instrument!

And yes, u r right...that slotted headstock is just a killer design! Sometimes it's hard when you request things that are not exactly standard as u r not really sure how things will turn out.... but in this case it sounds like things turned out exactly the way you wanted them. Rock on!

I am also curious to hear more about your bridge option.

Additionally, I'm so happy to hear you have no quality issues. I know there have been some instruments delivered recently that were not so lucky. I always felt blessed with my X20-12, because construction-wise I always felt like it was flawless.

Cheers, and enjoy making some beautiful music on your new beautiful Emerald!!

Cheers...

The body is also solid black. The painting on the arm bevel is a bit thinner and you can guess the carbon weaves in very bright light.

It’s a simple pinhole the size of the string, the ball end does the rest.
