Default When was the x20 updated?

I'm looking at buying one from 2015, and it looks like the newest model to the eye, but I wanted to check and see if there have been any changes to it since 2015.

Thanks all!

For all the Emerald love here I asked a very similar question that was never answered- you may have better luck asking Emerald directly. I might do it me self

I believe it changed a bit in 2017 on. FWIW, I like the pre '17's better tone wise.

My X20 from late 2013 is pretty much the same as the ones offered today. I think they were center hole before then. I played some recent ones that sound the same as mine last fall.

That is interesting. I see you have pre and post 2017. Would you describe the tonal differences? It's so hard to tell from videos.

I would be interested to know this too. My X20 is from 2016, and I adore the tone. It was at a friend's house recently for ten days so he could compare it directly against a custom shop OM-28 that he was considering. It was no contest -- X20 all the way for rich tone and overall loudness, as judged by four different sets of ears.

I actually have 3 X20's. One is the bone stock one listed below and then two custom Woody's. The stock 2016 X20 is as everybody claims, just fantastic. My one Woody below is custom; short scale, thin neck, 1 11/16th nut. Excellent playing wise, but does not have any of the "brilliance or overtones" of the stock one. My other one, not listed, was a custom build that I'm really not happy with. To me, it has no highs at all. It's mid and bass are great, but no chime. It's been back to the factory and they say it's fine and play it side by side with their other X20's there, but when I compare it to my two others, it's not even close tonally. The 2017's and newer are different in how the carbon fiber is laid, or something like that. Alistair told me this personally over the phone when we were discussing "my" problem. I don't know if it's that or not, I really don't, but there is a notable difference in both my newer woody's; one I can live with, the other I cannot. Alistair was very good to deal with and we discussed many options to try and make it right for me.

Puerto,

Was that the final answer that there was nothing wrong with it? Just curious if you found out anything else from them.

Puerto;

Your experience boggles the mind. CF is supposed to be consistent, unlike wood. Your experience suggests that there are variables as yet unconsidered.

CF is very consistent as a material, assuming you use the same lay-up techniques. But apparently something changed in the X20 build process that just doesn't work for Puerto.

Any time there is human involvement, there are variables. Just a little something to help unboggle your mind.

Apparently it's common to get boggled, not so common to get unboggled. Must be a secret.
