Smile My Rainsong Jumbo, two months after...

I played this guitar at least one hour a day for sixty days.
I fingerpicked it, I strummed it, I used bare fingers, I used fingerpicks.
I played it with a capo on the 2nd, 4th and 5th fret.
I played it plugged and unplugged.
Well, I just wanted to say that my Rainsong Jumbo is the best guitar I ever
had ( and I had 18 guitars in my life).
Oh, by the way, I do not work for Rainsong (although I admit I am a fan of
carbon/composite guitars !).

Ya know I think you have said this bout every new guitar you have told us about-What about the Emerald? I too am a fan of composite guitars though I am sticking with my CA Bluegrass Performer. I do think that there is something about those Jumbo guitars, and Rainsong does make some beauties. However if you say that the Youngstown Steelboy fingerpicker 201 is your favorite next I will think you need to be sent to the woodshed. Patrick

Well, as already said, I admit that I like the sound of carbon/composite guitars.
I still have an Emerald X10 small body and this is my...second best guitar!

Cheers

I'm on the one year plan. At the pace I'm going I should finish my undergrad around March 07. I plan on celebrating by buying myself a new Rainsong WS.

I am very glad you like it. I must say that they look very nice. I will have to go to the guitar shop and play one. I have yet to hear one. I am sheltered what can i say :-)

I've had my WS for little over a year now. I can with full confidence say that, it sounds so much fuller and lively than any wood guitar I've heard. In fact I just played at a retreat where a buddy of mine brought his 814ce. He played his guitar first and then I broke out my WS and everyone (including him) was like "oh man! that sounds so nice!"

BUT!!!......I really really miss the warmth and intimate sound that wood guitars have that no carbon fiber bodied guitar can ever offer. So after one year of owning my rainsong I'm looking into walnut ceder guitar

I used to own an ovation Cutom Legend. It had a real very nice tone and smooth action. But after a few years I missed the warmth of an all wood guitar. I have been tempted to try a Rainsong jumbo but I remind myself of my experience with the Ovation and I resist.

I played a WS1000 the other day in a shop and I have to say I was very impressed. These instruments sound like a Taylor on steroids! i.e. a Taylor with its signature tone exagerated.
Crystal clarity, bell like sustain and easy to play. What I did notice on the neagtive side was that the bass seemed a bit hollow and tinny, especailly above the 7th fret.
Overall though I have to say I was very impressed. Impressed enough to take it over my Taylor 714CE or my Martin OMC-28LJ? Don't think so as there is something about the organic sound of wood (or perhaps that's psychological) but if I was looking for a new instrument as a working instrument these would be seriously considered.
I can't help but wonder if this is the future of guitar making . . .

Aaron
