Default Build Thread: Charis SJ EIR Cedar

In addition to Jon's GC, I'm building an SJ that is EIR/Cedar for the shop stock in this batch. It will be a Florentine Cutaway and will have the sound port and Arm Bevel. It will be trimmed in T'Zalam.

Give me a shout if you are interested in making this one your own!

View of the inside before the top goes on.

Braced Top

Close up of the EIR/Ab Rosette

Just a little bit of sapwood in the center. I don't see a lot of EIR with sapwood.

Fingerboard and Headplate Trimmed out in T'Zalam and Silhouette Dove position markers.

No kidding - that little bit of sapwood and the curvature of the grain around it gives it some real character....

Hi Bill,

Beautiful choice of woods and lovely inside work on the body! This is going to be a beautiful guitar when it's done!

Looking great, Bill. Can't wait to receive my new GC!

For those looking to possibly purchase, let me just say as a soon to be 6-time Charis owner that you really can't go wrong!

More photos of the build in process.

Binding is complete. Just a lot of sanding to do!

Neck will be finished and ready to mate to the box in a couple days.

Please don't build anything with a redwood top...I think I'd be lost to temptation!!!! And forget it all together if it is a Sinker top...

Beautiful work, Bill. A real pleasure to see.

It's turning out good Bill! Pretty darn close to what I'll do if ever I decide to commission one.

Got the seal coat applied. Really makeS the wood pop! In about a week to 10 days we'll get to hear the first notes!

The sealer sure makes the TZ stand out loud and proud...very pretty, also the invisible seam cedar top.

Gorgeous build Bill! Love that EI Rosewood set with the subtle sapwood. Someone should snap this one up.

A stunning set of EIR...the curved grain and the touch of sapwood are really special. The binding is the icing on the cake! Very, very nice, indeed.
