Default Low E slipping off the fretboard

Hi All, I've just bought a 1954 Martin D18. Its beautiful and so sweet. Its had a neck reset and I would have thought a refret as well.
However when fretting the low E I have to be careful that I dont push the string off the fretboard. I think the refret has allowed the fret to be filed too cleanly at an angle and in so doing makes the fretting a bit more difficult. The nut spacing looks Ok - but hey I could be wrong.
Anyone else had this problem with a vintage instrument?

I had the same problem with a modern high end Martin, you probably need a new nut, that solved the problem for me, I can't think of another solution.
