Default Son’s NGD/Pacifica612

What a factory hot rod this guitar is! I’m blown away. I had absolutely no idea.
Look at the list of top shelf hardware Yamaha uses on this S style axe right off the Indonesian shop floor:

Grover Locking Tuners
Graph Tech Nut and String Trees
Wilkinson 50 Series Vibrato Bridge with heavyweight trem block
SeymourDuncan Single Coils and a Humbucker w/coil split
Rosewood Fretboard
Alder body
Matching Painted Headstock
Pop In Adjustable Tension Trem Arm

DannyBoy tells me the neck is similar to the current modern C shape found on new Fender Strats. Thin but a little deeper than prior C shaped necks.
Weight is 7lbs.12oz.
Metallic Teal paint is flawless, I’m told by a very pick guy. LOL

I don’t mind saying I’m quite envious of my SonnyBoy right now! But I’m also very proud of him, doing his research and treating himself to such a value packed work/stage guitar!

Hi Frank,

Cool guitar!

My son also has a Yamaha Pacifica with similar features but black in color from about 30 years ago and it's a terrific guitar! Easy to play, fantastic sound from the pickups!

How about that Glenn. Two very talented, musically inclined/involved sons with similar taste. We are two very blessed musicians, aren’t we?

Take care Willow

Sweet Pacifica frank d! Yamaha makes a fine guitar.
Congrats to your boy!

I remember having a bottom of the line Pacifica Tele in the early 90s, it was such a great guitar, the best neck I ever played, wound up trading it towards my Fender Tele. Wish I still had it.

Hey Joseph,
My son tells me the fret crowns are smooth, shiny and grit free. He says he found a few fret ends that need to be dressed, but they are beyond the fourteenth fret. For a sub $1k guitar I can’t get over the value Yamaha puts into this offering.

Stay well Joe!

Sweet! Pacificas are great guitars and the 600 series is the top of that line. You should be envious!

Who knew this Pacifica line of guitars is so well loved? Not me.
I can’t wait to get to St. Louie this spring to take that axe for a test drive!
Thanks Dru

I wasn’t fooling when I said I had no idea of the quality of hardware and fit/finish of this pacific rim hot rod!!
With the exception of ceramic coated trem springs, a Switchcraft input jack and five way selector, it is almost identical to how I modded my American Special Strat a few years back!
Thanks David

I can’t lie, Pappy, I’m such a big time sap when it comes to a painted headstock!
Bahahaha😂😹😂 Even if I’m not a fan of a particular model of guitar(I’ve never warmed to Telecasters) I would say….. oh, that’s a good looking axe, don’t you think?

Stay well my friend!

BTW, I like all the specs on that guitar except the nut width. 1.614" is 41mm vs. Fender at 1.625 (1-5/8") or 1.6875 (1-11/16") (depending on model), and 1.6875 (1-11/16") for most other brands. 1.614" (41mm) would be a little too skinny for me.

Pappy, the next time I get a hold of DannyBoy I’m going to have him measure the width of the fretboard against the seated nut. I find it very hard to believe that number is correct, unless it is the measurement from the low to high E string, not the fret board width? Dan is a big guy, 6’4” with hands to match. That would have been the first thing he said to me if the neck is in fact slimmer than the Wizard speed necks Ibanez uses on the RG SERIES shred guitars, don’t you agree?

Frank, I absolutely agree. Seems strange that Yamaha would go with such a narrow nut width - less than 1-5/8". I expect (and hope) that you are correct.

I looked up the Yamaha Pacifica 612 on Sweetwater and it does indeed show 1.614" nut width in the tech specs section. That surprises me.

Hmmm. I just checked Yamaha's website, and the specs do indeed list the nut width as 41mm. That's for the entire Pacifica lineup. The Revstar lineup is listed as 41.9mm, and the SA200 semi-hollow body is listed as 43mm.

I suppose the good news is that a lot of people have owned and/or played a Pacifica and have/had no issues with the nut width. Who knows what the string spacing may be, but that could play a big role in giving it a wider playing feel.

Frank, I didn't mean to take any of the shine off of your son's new guitar, and I'm sorry if I did. It's a beautiful guitar and the specs look absolutely first rate, especially for a sub-$1,000 guitar.
