Default Pro junior to blues junior ?

I have a fender pro junior and I’m thinking of upgrading to the Blues junior. Anyone make the jump from one to the other? I’ve heard varying opinions, but some swear by the blues jr and some by the pro. I like my pro apart from the loud noise floor. It is not a quiet amp by any means.

The thing you get with the Blues Jr is a master volume...so you can get dirty sounds at lower volumes.

They're great, but yeah, so is the pro.

If noise floor is your only issue, I'm wondering if it's worth having a tech take a look to see if it can be made quieter. If you like the amp, maybe just a tweak can quiet it down.

I don't know amps well, but I've heard that the particular Pro Junior that I have is noisy. Maybe new tubes would help? I've read online that the newer Pros are quieter. So I guess it's between getting a new Pro or new Blues. I really like the streamlined design of the Pro. Maybe I'll go with a newer one and see.

Completely different animals. I have had both. The Pro Junior is a great one trick pony. The Blues Junior is a mediocre jack of all trades. I dumped my BJ after a few months because it was almost the most uninspiring amp I've ever owned. You need to give more specifics about what you are looking for.

Ok good to hear. I have heard a few say the Blues juniors weren't their favorite. I actually like the Pro Jr, but it's a loud amp (noise floor) and it'd be nice to have built in reverb. I play clean blues and jazz and a little Rock. It seems to do well at these.

If you could spring for a Princeton Reverb with a 12" speaker I think you would be very happy. Less money but still an excellent amp is the Peavey Classic 30. For a SS amp the Peavey Bandit is an amazing amp IMO. Used for around $150 they are a bargain.

I’d make a bigger jump to a Princeton or a Deluxe. Although pricey, both are way better than a Junior.

Make sure you audition one of these before you spring for a Blues Jr. - more tonal variety, true second OD channel, extra power/headroom if you need it, and a few-hun less to boot:

fwiw this guy really doesn't like either of them (though they are good for his repair business)

In fairness, the Tele was apparently half-drunk at the time.

I had a Pro Junior I picked off Craigslist for like $200. Honestly I don't know why I sold it, it sounded great. If you arn't happy with the noise floor you could see about taking it to a tech to remedy that. I think there is supposed to be some untwisting or moving of heater wires or something that can lessen the amp noise.

If you want the overdrive at lower volumes you could get one of those small attenuators, like the Swart Night Lite Jr. Or use pedals.

Blues Jr's are decent amps,

I had two over the years

They can be a little boxy sounding if you push them. I have read a speaker swap can fix that.

I'm not sure I'd buy another one tho.

IMHO. Much better options out there in that size/wattage

Have you considered any of Fender's Tone Master amps?

The Princeton TM may be something you would have an interest in.

Another recommendation for the Bugera over the Blues Jr.

I had the sonic blue version of the Blues Jr. with the Cannibis Rex speaker for about a year. To my ears, with my thinline semi-hollow and it's Kent Armstrong humbuckers, I found the tone to be a bit harsh and boxy.

The Bugera sounds smoother and offers more versatility.
And, it's cheaper.
