Mountain biking in the big trees, Humboldt County, Northern California.
Sony A9ii Sigma 24-70 DG DN 67mm / f 2.8 / ISO 200 / SS 160 Taken of me by a friend. I'd say the shutter speed was probably too slow, should have set it for him and pushed up the ISO. Last edited by Dirk Hofman; 04-06-2022 at 04:34 PM. |

Springtime in the Rockies
Shot 5 mins. ago What is interesting about this photo is that the tracks (Fox and Pine Marten) are all from last night as that was fresh untracked snow yesterday evening

That’s a great shot, Dirk - so atmospheric. Technically, it’s fine as far as I’m concerned - I see motion, rather than an over-sharp capture.

That's a good point, looking at the other, sharper ones I took in the same frame, they do feel a bit more static. And thanks! I was going for trying to show a sense of the place. Glad it comes through.

Nice pics, beautiful location. Just curious...can you swim in those waters, or are there nasties of various sorts such that you shouldn’t? I’m from Canada and prefer swimming in fresh water where we can swim in lakes and rivers without any worry. Wintering in Florida, you don’t dare swim in fresh water.

Went to a place in San Jose called Cunningham Lake where they have this huge Mountain Bike skills area. Went down to practice my jumping, and got a couple quick shots of some of the kids there. First one is this kid Tanner I met, and I sent his folks a sequence of him jumping. They really appreciated it. I figured I should chat with them and not just be some rando taking photos of their kid. Really nice people.
The other two are a couple guys who work there on a break. Man, what I'd have given for a place like this when I was growing up! I'll never get to this level but it was fun to watch! And I did have a good time practicing my own modest jumping. Good fun. Sony A9ii Sigma 24-70 DG DN Various Focal Lengths / f 2.8 / SS 3200 Last edited by Dirk Hofman; 04-13-2022 at 09:21 AM. |

This sleek 190 seat cat took us on a 120km loop of Macquarie Harbour from the port town of Strahan on Tasmania's west coast. Heading north between the 2 lighthouses of Bonnet Island & Entrance Island towards the sea. Heading through the narrow channel (aka "Hell's Gates") to the left of Entrance Island into the Southern Ocean. Bonnet Island on the way back into the harbour.

The mouth of the Gordon River at the other (southern) end of Macquarie Harbour. Calm conditions cruising upriver. World Heritage listed rainforest lines the banks of the Gordon River. Many of these timbers (Huon Pine, Celery Top Pine, Blackwood, Tassie Myrtle/Beech & Blackheart Sassafras) were harvested for use in the convict shipyard of Sarah Island, entirely protected area now.
