Finally got this Tele done, it really needed a new harness to bring out the best in the Dimarzios...

New pickguard with normal size humbucker holes
Jupiter PIO Bumble Bee Style caps (.015 neck, .022 bridge)
3 500K CTS pots
1 500K Bourns pot for coil splitting with the bridge volume
Switchcraft 3 way switch
Switchcraft output jack
Solid buss wire
High quality 4 conductor wire for the switching'

Not the best picture, but you'll get the idea (the wires in the back are guitar strings)...

The guitar sounded great before, but the improvement that these parts made was substantial. The clarity of both pickups were improved, and the split on the bridge pickup sounds great. Also the sweep of both of the tones controls are better.

Great story. Way cool guitar! Amazing how much tonal change can be had by swapping pots/caps. I had a 72’ deluxe thinline reissue. Great guitar! Although the wide range weren’t my cup of tea. Doesn't appear that they were your thing either. I get it. The Dimarzio upgrade is a huge improvement, I’m sure.

Years back I also had a modern thinline tele. Semi hollow. It ended up with 50’s wiring using vintage pushback wire. CTS pots, Switchcraft switch and Jack. It had P-90’s. The growl was phenomenal.

I decided I wanted to experiment and put a .047 on the BRIDGE , and a .022 on the NECK. That WAS the ticket for this guitar. It sounded okay before. It became a tone MONSTER! Nice warm lows without the mud, clean highs but more round…more warmth. Less ice pick. Useable sweep on the pots. Yeah…I miss that guitar.

Anyway, thanks again for sharing. Love threads like this.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out! I love swapping various caps/pots around to find the magic, and sounds like you do too

I love that story Daniel and that is one SWEET Tele! You mentioned something like the DiMarzio pickups being the first replacement pickups and I remembered I had a Super Distortion in my high school guitar. It was a Penco Les Paul that I loved. But I think I was more proud of the pickup then the guitar lol.

Thanks for posting your story and pics of this cool guitar.
