Default Why we LOVE music. A neurological explanation.

https://bigthink.com/series/explain-...rain-on-music/

You have to put up with an ad at the beginning of the video but well worth the wait for this historical (and neurological) take on why humans love music.

Thanks, I find all that neurological basis of human behaviour fascinating.
I'm sure there is more than one reason why we evolved to love music but the video ( and I only read the transcript quickly) seems to ignore what seems to be the core reason just why we evolved to love music.
This radio podcast refers to it in passing without really exploring the implications for social organisation and co-operation but I suspect the research mentioned all too briefly must have a lot to do with why an appreciation for music evolved.

It might seem obvious to some but it's worth pointing out that our modern appreciation of music is skewed toward listening to professionals perform to an audience but previously most people enjoyed music as a communal activity, singing and dancing together, think folks singing hymns in church or football fans singing on the terraces or work gangs and sailors singing shanties.

What I can't figure out, is why so many people like bad music...

That's why they got sentenced to those communal work-gangs.
