Default I-beam acitve, B-band AST or K and K pure?

It's down to these three, based on cost, ease of install, and sound.

Anybody got any inputs on reliability, battery life, install hassles (I'll do it myself).

Thanks
Scott

Add the PUTW #54 and Trance Audio Amulet to your SBT list.

With or without your first gain stage and impedance buffer?

Great tone IMO with the B-band AST BUT way too feedback prone, especially in bass-heavy guitars. Spend about $70 more (just under $200) and get the AST/UST combo (A2.2). Great tone without feedback problems. It retains the natural sound of the guitar it's installed in pretty well IMO. Good luck in your decision.

Default Huuhh?

Scrathing my head...I plan on installing this thing, plugging in to a small Crate acoustic amp, and entertaining myself, my family, and occasionally a very demanding Cub Scout pack.

What is this black magic of which you speak?

Scott....

If it's use is for mainly low volume settings, the AST solo might work just fine for you. I just wanted to make you aware that cranked up it has potential for serious feedback problems. What type of guitar BTW?

Oh BTW the "do it yourself" is very nice on the A1.2N AST. It's a peel and stick SBT and can be easily removed and repositioned. In fact B-Band is very good about sending extra 2 way sticky's later on if you need them (ie transplanting the pickup to another guitar). Excellent customer service IMO.....

Default Guitar type

Is a Taylor GA3 with a Colosi bone saddle.

I had another guitar with a K and K Trinity. Liked the sound, didn't like all the boxes/wires n stuff hanging around. Way overkill for my limited needs.

Because I'm plugging directly into an amp, I might go for a passive system and keep the wire short. Man, I'm cheap.

Bob C is actually where I got my B-band pickups from. He's pretty familiar with them. You could try the K&K solo PWM (cheapest). It might work for you without needing a preamp. Tough to tell til you install. Might sound fine without one though. Some people use them without a preamp. IMO the AST would sound fine going direct into your amp (with no external preamp) for your apparent purposes. BTW Taylors aren't generally known for being overly bassy (like some bluegrass style guitars are), so I think a SBT pickup would work well for you. Good luck to you...

In a Taylor you could use a K&K PWM, However in a Bass heavy guitar they need mucho EQ via DI etc et al

Found that one out the hard way.
