Default My car stero won't play CD-RW disk. WHY?

This may be off subject for this discussion but I download music to an CD-RW disk but for some reason my car stero system will not reconize it. The CD-R disk work fine.

Anyone have a reason why?

Is it an older vehicle?

My '96 truck won't play CD-RW but my '06 car will.

The format was a late addition to the CD field, having come out in 1997. Some systems just haven't included it in their bundle of acceptable formats. Try CD-R instead.

The car is a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria with 61,211 miles on it. Just thought I would through that milage in. It sets in the garage most of the time now that we are retired.

We go most everyehere in the pick-up now.

Are you creating an audio CD or a data disc? Many older radios can't play anything other than audio CDs (ie, no mp3, no WAV).

Oh I see. You want to get away from the wife for awhile, skip out to the garage, pop some tunes in the Crown Vic and relax.

I've been married for just over a year and wish I had a sweet setup like that.

Rusty I'll bet that is my problem. I'm putting it down on MP-3 format. I don't know how to change to Audio CD format.

I've checked my burner and Microsoft Media Player 11 and it is creating an Audio CD format. It is funny of all the CD's I have burned the car will play the CD-R disk no problem but will not play a CD-RW.

I'm going to buy a few CD-R disk burn the same songs and see if it will play it.

I haven't burned a CD-RW in years, but if I remember correctly, you need to "finalize" the disc for it to play in most CD players. Otherwise, it's still writable which is the point of CD-RW's.

Yes sir, the disk shows it is being finalized after the last song has been burned and before the burner ejects the disk.

Thanks,
djh

Just curious: does the brand of the CD make much difference? What do folks recommend for best playback quality and durability? I've used JVC recently and the CD's do not play on some of my CD players and seem to skip a lot in my car.

Most stand alone audio CD players will not play a CDRW disc. AFAIK only computers and maybe CD recorders will play them.
