Like others have said, I researched mic placement as much as I researched different types of mikes. Harmony Central has decent gear reviews if you want to begin comparing reviews of the different mikes people have posted about.
In the Shure family you also can compare the KSM 137 and KSM 141 to the SM81. All are really fine mics for acoustic. I used to own a pair of Rode NT5 and found them far too shrill at the high end--seemed better for high hat or snare than acoustic guitar.

If you're going to be sitting down when recording, I've found these stands to be excellent. They set up nicely at sitting levels and you can use the boom or remove to work xy with a mic stereo bar. I use two of them with a spaced pair set-up. JUst the right height!

AKG C1000 kicks ***!!!! holds its own againts allot of mics no matter what price in MHO..Of course a really good mic pre doesnt hurt...Perhaps looking into a good mic pre should be of consideration.
