Default Safe landing....

I'm a bit of a nit, so just kind of enjoy this opening process with me! This sign's been up on the front door all day in case I was momentarily indisposed - Don't leave! Tomorrow will be freezing and snowy!

No external signs of damage:

Then a quick check and look how lucky... no acclimation issues...

Check internal temp (by hand) at each step of the opening process:

Finally getting close.. this is a BAM case, from France, with the additional padded case cover. The case cover has a highly reflective pattern all over it - that's what's shining in the flash photo:

Here's a photo without flash - this is what it looks like to the naked eye!

Note the thickness of the padded case cover - it's like a form-fit gig bag!

And, finally, drum roll.... here's Volcano (or Lava, as Mike named it) ready to come out, tune up, and play away!

At this point I stopped taking snapshots, took it out, checked over carefully, tuned it up to A440, played a tune, and went back to work! I plan on trying some recordings and A/B with the brazilian CX. More soon! Thanks for joining me..
Phil

now i hope you've already had enough time with this guitar before "the tree" baranik comes or your head might explode while deciding which guitar to play...

Thanks Fliss, TPP, and t-man... played out a bit more... wandered through the BAM case, which has some nice features. Without the padded case cover it's light as a feather, while still having a solid feel to it. With the padded case cover I think I could drop kick it across the room without damage, but it adds a significant amount of real estate to the storage area. I'll take measurements sometime and post a review of the case itself. Mike has another one in hand for my Wanderer build.

I should be playing and recording rather than writing, but just a snapshot of the sound -- shimmery highs, rich mids, and soft but full lows. Not boomy - more on the mid/treb side but I haven't "dug in" yet to see if the bass emerges more strongly. I'm a light finger picker mostly, and I'm certainly getting all the bang for the buck I expected. The saddle and nut are FWI, and I wonder if that adds to the shimmer - it certainly did on my Taylors.

More later. I'm going to try something I haven't heard of before with the Zoom H4n. I'm going to put one cable from the Highlander pickup, and another cable from an Audix VX-5, separate channels, and see how much difference there is. A headset and pan or balance slider / knob ought to show the difference very well.

Cheers all, and thanks again.

Phil

I love the way a grown man becomes as excited as a kid at Christmas when it comes to the arrival of his new guitars.

Not to mention that Mike makes a great instrument!

Thanks for sharing this thread, Phil. I need to get in here more often because, threads like this are so much fun.

Thanks Karl, Mary, and Keith! It's so much more fun opening "presents" with friends watching on. Imagine a Christmas morning and opening gifts with no one there... fast path to depression!

I came from a big family so I love the organized chaos of Christmas. Each time any of my AGF family gets a new toy, I can hear the heart beats pounding all the way from Ohio.

Nooooo, no, no, no. You are "good" family.

I get so busy working that I tend to forget to lurk around forums. Phil knew where to find me to make sure I saw his link to his newbie guitar.

Tell ya what, since I am easy to find, send an IM or an e-mail me so I can see your threads. Deal?
